RADIATE. We strive to exude happiness, passion, and confidence and share it with the world. Be the good. This is one of the six values that we live and work by here at Cents of Style. And it's something that I have been working on this year, both personally and professionally.
I recently listened to an interview Oprah did with Brene Brown. If you haven't heard of Brene Brown or listened to her TED talks, go now. Seriously, stop reading this blog post right now (but come back later!) and go read and listen to everything she's every put out in the world.
Anyway, I digress. Oprah was talking to Brene about her book Daring Greatly and Oprah said someting that really struck me. She said, "Vulnerability is the cournerstone of confidence." Wow! We often think of vulnerability as weakness, but it isn't. It is necessary. We don't need to be perfect to be happy and confident. When we are vulnerable enough to say "I am not perfect, but that's okay." That is when we truly have self-confidence.
"You can't get to courage without walking through vulnerability." - Brene Brown
So often our self-confidence is effected by what we think other people are thinking about us. I fall into this trap so often. But when that happens, I always think of the quote by Eleanor Roosevelt. "You wouln't worry so much about what others think of you if you realized how seldom they do." That's a hard realization to come to when we live in this crazy world of social media. Social media is a world of instant validation. We are trained to seek validation from a source outside of ourselves. We always want more "likes", comments, followers. We try to find the most flattering filters and create the most witty captions.
But guess what?
It's no one's job to validate you and what you are doing. No one is going to do it. Validate yourself! Be confident in what you are doing and find your own happiness. Then something amazing happens. You can spread that happiness to others.
My mom always tells me "Pretend that everyone is walking around with a sign around their neck that says 'Make me feel important.'" Everyone wants to feel important. That's how we can each BE THE GOOD. If you can make YOU important to YOU, you can then help others feel the same about themselves.
How will you choose to RADIATE? What will you do today to strive to exude happiness, passion, and confidence? How are you going to share that with the world?
