Summer's Must Have Item: The Kimono

Summer is that time to relax and rewind and enjoy the sun! During the fall and winter my wardrobe pretty much consists of basics in black, white, and gray.  But when summer rolls around all I want is bright color and pattern! Kimonos are a great way to add color, pattern, and layers but without the added heat.  They are so lightweight that they are a dream to wear in the summertime.  Here is how to rock the kimono this summer!

Wear to the beach or pool

Kimonos make the best cover ups for the beach or pool.  They don't absorb a lot of water so they dry off fast and they never look soaking wet even when your swimsuit is!

Wear with shorts and a tank

Kimonos layer beautifully over simple tanks and provide just the right amount of coverage to shoulders and arms.  Adding some color to simple a simple white T or tank and shorts will instantly bring your look to life.  Don't be afraid to layer shorts or a skirt that is shorter than the kimono length.  Layer on summer hats, long layered jewelry and gladiator sandals for a boho chic look.

Wear layered over a sundress

A kimono adds such a sweet layered touch to any pretty sundress.  Plus, it gives you an opportunity to pull out summer dresses that you might have forgotten about in your closet.  Layer over solid colored dresses in similar flowy fabrics for an easy breezy look.

Wear over a Maxi dress or skirt

My favorite layering option for a colorful kimono is on top of a solid maxi dress.  I love the magic that happens when a lightweight kimono layered on top.  The result is instant style.

Wear with your "go to" Items

The easiest look to pull off with a kimono is to simply add it over your go to skinny jeans and t-shirt look.  Layer with fun jewelry, summery sandals, and your favorite summer updo and you are good to go!
