Plum Street Prints, An American Dreamer

"I am thankful for those hard moments because they showed me how strong I was. They showed me that I could create this dream if I was willing to work for it. No one hands you your dream, it's something you earn." --- Shannon Cornelius, owner of Plum Street Prints

Our Cents of Style team had the pleasure of meeting Shannon, owner of Plum Street Prints, at Snap! Conference this year and immediately knew we wanted to work with her. At first glance she's obviously darling with a bubbly and uplifting personality, all of which is reflected in her business. Created "with a vision for great products and lovely design," Plum Street Prints provides beautiful and fun custom design phone cases, journals, notebooks, inspiring prints, and so much more. (Fair warning, you'll want all of it.)

But Shannon is also incredibly talented, determined, smart, and -- fortunately for the rest of us -- eager to share what she's learned with others. She provides actual tools and methods for growing your brand/business through educational opportunities such as an e-book, videos, and free PDFs, jam-packed with info on branding and tips for your business.

And while Plum Street Prints has grown into a thriving business today featured by top magazines, fashion bloggers and news sites, the road hasn't been an easy one for this wife and mother of three. However, as one who loves the "grit of hard work and seeing a business grow," Shannon hasn't backed down from the challenge or lost site of her goals. We're thrilled to share her own American Dreamer story:

"Since I was young, I always dreamed of creating a business of my own - one that uplifted and oozed with creativity and color. Plum Street Prints started with this vision for great products and lovely design, and was originally created by myself and a college friend. A couple years after we started, my partner decided she needed to leave to be with her family more. It also had been our slowest time with sales and overall shop productivity and I almost decided to throw in the towel. I felt really scared about having to take a company that was slowing and turn it around all by myself, but I believed so strongly in this brand and knew it could be greater.

"I worked my tail off every day, morning and evening, barely sleeping at all and staying true to my passions. I re-branded and created new product lines. I recreated my site and found better manufacturers. I grew my social media connections and followers, increased sales, royalty partnerships, collaborations, and so much more.

"Through this, I have turned Plum Street Prints into a successful business, surpassing my previous creativity and revenue goals more than I thought possible. I am thankful for those hard moments because they showed me how strong I was. They showed me that I could create this dream if I was willing to work for it. No one hands you your dream, it's something you earn. Overcoming these obstacles has helped me teach others that when you're feeling a lull with your business, remind yourself how capable you are. Think of your strengths. Put your head down and get to work – and don’t compare yourself to anyone else. Waste less time. Stay focused on your goals. Push yourself to keep making your business better, and before long, as long as you love what you’re doing, I know you’ll see it really grow. I am an American Dreamer because I've worked so hard to make my dreams a reality and I try to help others do the same."
