My Gypsy Soul: Preface

"Wanderlust consumed her; foreign hearts and exotic minds compelled her. She had a gypsy soul and a vibrant hope for the unknown."

Someone with a gypsy soul is in constant need of change and adventure; determined to find inspiration, enlightenment, and freedom. It's not that their grass isn't green enough, but that they possess an overwhelming yearning to explore the world around them and learn from it.

I happen to have a gypsy soul, which is a learning experience in itself. I have to learn that staying home and exploring the world with a good book is okay, because I'm always wanting more knowledge and experiences, but that can get costly! Leave it to reality to remind you that you're bank account isn't an unlimited resource. My favorite books growing up were those filled with adventure, fantasy, and brave protagonists willing to take risks. I wanted to be Obi-Wan Kenobi (nerd alert) and travel the universe! I wanted to be part of the Fellowship and carry the Ring to Mordor. I dreamt of lands full of magical beasts, castles, and secret corridors. Belle, from Disney's Beauty and the Beast said it best, "I want adventure in the great, wide somewhere. I want it more than I can tell." Belle gets me; she's my homegirl. She knew that books were the key to living more than a provincial life, without leaving the ones you love behind.

Now grown up, I've traveled eleven countries, but still fully believe in the power of a good book. That's why I'm writing my own. My explorations of the world so far have been so impactful on my views of other cultures and, subsequently, how I now live my life. There's so much to see out there, but actually taking the time to people watch and speak with the locals opened my eyes to how others live their lives on this wonderous planet. It created a humility in me; an understanding and appreciation I never quite had before.

I'll be writing blog posts on specific places around the world that I've visited, sharing with you the things I've come to learn and admire about each location. So stick with me as we write this story together, with excerpts from my travelog of the Mediterranean, Caribbean, North America, and more!

Let me feed your gypsy soul.
