How to Wear Flannel and Chambray For Fall

It feels pretty good to sit back and watch all the styles from my childhood come back with a vengeance. Thank you, chambray, for taking my jean shirts of the ‘90s from outdated to chic. (Can we somehow redeem my awkward phase of perm and braces? Or perhaps the family photo where we are all clad in head-to-toe denim? No? Worth a shot.)

If you haven’t tried chambray or flannel shirts, now is the time to plug in some new pieces to your wardrobe. (Hint: It might include a really great deal on them.)

During fall, these materials add a layer of cozy to your look. Plus, they are incredibly versatile- and for a lady on a budget this means fewer pieces with several outfits.

If you’re a mom on the go, you may find yourself rushing from school drop off to the gym to the grocery store. Why not pick one outfit that works for all three stops? Throw on a chambray button-up with your yoga pants and slip on a baseball cap. You may not have showered in between, but it’s our little secret. We also love the around-the-waist look, which works well if the morning temps decide to climb. 0f7ca3a240d6685344ec0961bee6045e.jpg (Image source)

Night Out

Unfortunately, we can’t entertain your toddler while you shower for date night, but we can make your outfit selection a breeze. Slip on some colored jeans and tuck in that chambray shirt at the front. And if you don't have time to wash your hair in that shower, have no fear. A hat will hide your (dirty) little secret while adding style to your look.  Chambray button down shirt and colored jeans for fall.jpg

Not all chambray shirts are created equal. Little details like the side buttons or a lace-up front bring a little sass to your style.

Flannel or Plaid

Lumberjacks, step aside. We are stealing your style and we aren’t even sorry.

We love the look at left from a popular high end department store, but who wants to pay $89 for a shirt?! Not us! Instead, snag one of our plaid shirts and some distressed denim or another pair of booties, with money left over for a pumpkin spice latte. After all, we care about you and your caffeine intake.

If button-ups aren’t your thing, we have your back. Plaid is showing up in accessories too. A vest is one of our favorites, and a buffalo check kimono is giving us major emoji heart-eyes, mostly because it feels like a snuggie but looks like the runway.

Hats, gloves, and scarves are also getting plaid fever. Be sure to add some plaid and welcome the cold with style.

Don't be afraid to jump on the flannel and chambray bandwagons this fall. Great layering pieces that can take you from carpool to work to date night, you'll be reaching for them again and again.
