Effortless And Cool Summer Style

The summer months are known for their slower pace and sense of relaxation. This is evidenced in bare-faced makeup days, easy to throw on sun dresses, and lazy evenings on the back deck. But summer is also a busy time with vacations and family reunions, holidays and days at the pool with the kids. The last thing you want is to be stressing about is what to wear. Having a few key pieces in your closet this summer can make all the difference in helping you look and feel your best while you enjoy making memories that will last forever. Here are five basic items every woman should own to stay cool this summer.

1. A Maxi Dress

I'm really hoping you've already got at least one of these your arsenal, but if not stop reading and take care of this now. A maxi dress is a god send and a piece you'll love year-round, but especially June - August. When it's stifling hot outside, who wants to be wearing hot and fussy layers? No one. Throw it on with your favorite pair of sandals, hair in a topknot, and you can be out the door in no time. Running around chasing after kids? No problem -- simply knot the dress at the bottom. Or dress it up a little for a dinner date with wedges, a clutch, and some red lipstick.

2. A Fun Trendy Item

You don't need to rework your entire wardrobe every season with the latest trends hitting the runway. Finding one or two that work to you and incorporating them into your style can have a big impact. You've probably noticed statement sleeves have been a big trend for 2017 and you won't hear us complaining. Cold shoulder, ruffles, cut outs, bell sleves. Adding even just one or two statement sleeve items to your closet will freshen up your look. Add the good kind of drama to your family reunion look with a ruffle sleeve top or dare to bare and let your shoulders get a little sunshine at brunch.

3. Wide Leg Statement Pants

I know, I love my jeans too, but it's time to give them a break. At least every now and then. A wide leg pant (bonus points for choosing a bold, statement making print) can be dressed up with heels for a night out with your main squeeze or paired perfectly with sandals for that backyard BBQ. Opt for light weight fabrics (like linen) or side slit detailing so the fabric moves with you as you walk.

4. A Maxi Skirt

Similar to maxi dresses and wide leg pants, maxi skirts are comfortable and give an effortless feel to your look. Also, a considerably cooler one -- literally. Got the maxi skirt thing down pat? Try mixing and matching your prints -- find a bold patterned skirt and pair it with a thin striped tee. Or roll up the sleeves to your favorite chambray and knot it at your waist.

5. A Classic Tee

I have no shame admitting I'm a jeans and t-shirt kind of girl. Doesn't matter the season, doesn't matter what's on the day's agenda, I'm most comfortable in my favorite, broken-in pair of skinny denim and a classic t-shirt. A soft tee in a flattering cut and neutral color can take you MILES. Worn casually with shorts or jeans, tucked into a high waist skirt, tied at your waist over your swimsuit at the beach, dressed up with a blazer and heels, or with your favorite sweatpants while watching Netflix... the ways to wear a great fitting tee are endless.
